Vex 5 is the entry that cemented the Vex series as one of the best browser platformers for anyone who loves precise, unforgiving movement. You play a stick figure sprinting through a set of side-scrolling Acts, each a gauntlet of saw blades, spikes, swinging hazards, water pools, and collapsing platforms that punish sloppy timing and reward flow.

What makes Vex 5 special is the tightness of its controls. Running, jumping, wall-sliding, wall-jumping, swimming and sliding all respond instantly, so the difficulty comes purely from reading the course and executing — never from the game feeling unfair. Die on a Vex 5 obstacle and you always know exactly what you did wrong, which is why players keep hammering the same section until they nail it.

The level design is built around momentum and verticality. Many stages funnel you into narrow shafts you have to climb with rapid wall-jumps, or long runs where you chain a slide into a jump into a swim without stopping. How to play Vex 5

Controls. Arrow keys or WASD: Up/W jumps, Left/Right run, Down/S slides and drops through thin platforms. Fall against a wall to wall-slide, then press jump to wall-jump off it. Tap jump repeatedly to swim up through water.

Tips:

• Wall-jump climbs are everywhere in Vex 5 — practise the left-right-left rhythm until it's automatic.
• Carry speed into gaps. A running or sliding start clears jumps that a standing leap falls just short of.
• Use Down to slide under saws and low ceilings; standing through them is a guaranteed death.
• Attempt the Challenge stages only after finishing the Acts — they assume total command of the controls.
