Vex 7 is the latest mainline chapter of the long-running Vex stickman platformer series, and it doubles down on what made the series a school-computer staple: tight, responsive controls and obstacle courses that want you dead. You guide a little stick figure through side-scrolling "Acts" packed with buzzsaws, spikes, collapsing platforms, water sections, and timing gates that only forgive perfect movement.

The Vex movement set is deep for a platformer. You run, jump, wall-slide, wall-jump, swim, slide under low gaps, and cling to surfaces — and Vex 7 layers these into sequences where you have to switch between them mid-air without breaking rhythm. The controls are famously precise, which is the whole point: when you die in Vex, it's your fault, not the game's, and that fairness is what keeps you retrying.

Levels are built around frequent checkpoints, so a death drops you back a few seconds rather than to the start. That keeps the difficulty motivating instead of punishing. Beyond the main Acts, Vex 7 carries the series tradition of brutal optional Challenges — bonus stages designed to test complete mastery of the movement, with far fewer checkpoints and much less mercy.

Part of Vex's appeal is how readable it is. The art is clean, the hazards are colour-coded, and you can see a whole obstacle sequence before you commit to it. How to play Vex 7

Controls. WASD or the arrow keys: Up/W to jump, Left and Right to run, Down/S to slide and drop through platforms. Hold toward a wall while falling to wall-slide, then jump to wall-jump. In water, tap jump to swim upward. Everything is keyboard — no mouse needed.

Tips:

• Learn the wall-jump rhythm early — most late-game Acts are vertical shafts that demand fast alternating wall-jumps.
• Slide (Down) to clear low gaps and to shave a hair off your landing, which matters in tight timing sections.
• Checkpoints are frequent — sprint sections between them instead of creeping, since a death barely sets you back.
• Save the optional Challenges for last. They assume you've mastered every movement the Acts taught you.
