Shell Shockers is a multiplayer first-person shooter where every player is a heavily armed egg. It sounds like a joke, and the tone is gleefully silly, but underneath the yolk is a genuinely competitive .io FPS with real aim, movement and class mechanics — which is exactly why it's been a school-computer favourite for years.

You pick one of several egg classes, each tuned around a weapon and playstyle. The all-rounder runs an assault rifle, the shotgun class rules close quarters, the sniper-style "Crackshot" wants distance, and there are fast, aggressive and explosive options for players who like to brawl. Matches are quick, respawns are instant, and the whole thing is built for drop-in, drop-out chaos — join a server, start cracking other eggs, and climb the scoreboard.

The combat is more skilful than the cartoon look suggests. Eggs move fast and have small hitboxes, so tracking targets takes real aim, and the maps are full of cover, ramps and sightlines that reward map knowledge. Land enough hits and you crack an enemy egg; take too many and you're scrambled — but you're back in the fight a second later.

Game modes include free-for-all, team battles, and the objective-based "Captula the Spatula" (a capture-the-flag twist), so there's variety beyond straight fragging. It's a browser game with the feel of a full multiplayer shooter, which is a big part of its staying power.

How to play Shell Shockers

Controls. WASD move, mouse aim, left-click shoot, right-click aim down sights. Space jump, Shift to move quietly, R reload, 1 / 2 swap weapon and melee, Q or a number key to throw grenades where the class has them.

Tips:

• Pick a class that fits your aim: shotgun eggs for close brawling, the rifle for all-round play, Crackshot for long sightlines.
• Keep moving and jumping — eggs are small, fast targets, and standing still gets you cracked instantly.
• Reload behind cover, never in the open. Getting caught mid-reload is the most common death.
• Learn each map's ramps and high spots; controlling elevation gives you the first shot in most fights.
