If an enemy cuts through your trail before you return to your territory, you die. If you cut through theirs, they die. The tension of Paper IO 2 comes from commitment. Every time you leave your zone to claim land, you're vulnerable. Your trail is your Achilles' heel — a long looping expedition that grabs a huge chunk of the map also creates a long fragile line that any opponent can sever.
