About Getaway Shootout

Getaway Shootout is a chaotic race-to-the-extraction party game where the joke is that your characters can barely walk. Instead of running normally, each fighter moves by hopping — you tap one button to lunge up-left and another to lunge up-right — so getting anywhere is a clumsy, physics-driven flail. Two or three players scramble across side-scrolling obstacle courses toward a getaway point (a helicopter, a car), and the first to reach it wins the round.

The twist is that it's not just a race — it's a brawl. Weapons and power-ups spawn along the course: pistols, shotguns, grenades, jetpacks, boxing gloves, and stranger gadgets. Grab one and you can blast, knock, or launch your rivals backward, turning a simple sprint into a slapstick shootout. Because movement is so awkward, every firefight is unpredictable comedy — characters ragdoll off ledges, overshoot jumps, and get flung across the screen at the worst moments.

Getaway Shootout is made for local multiplayer. You can play solo against CPU opponents, but it's at its best with a friend or two sharing the keyboard, each on a two-button setup, laughing at how badly everyone controls. Rounds are quick and you play a best-of series, so there's always a "one more round" rematch energy.

The deliberately terrible controls are the entire point — mastering the hop-and-shoot movement just enough to beat a friend is deeply satisfying, and losing is just as funny.

How to play Getaway Shootout

Controls. Player 1: W hop left, E hop right, R use item/shoot. Player 2: arrow keys Up and Down (or the mapped hop keys) plus a shoot key shown on the select screen. Movement is all hopping — you lunge diagonally with each press.

Tips:

• Master the two-hop rhythm before worrying about weapons — controlled movement wins more rounds than firepower.
• Grab every weapon and power-up you pass; a well-timed shot or grenade can knock a leading rival off the course.
• Use the environment — knock opponents into pits and off ledges instead of just shooting them.
• It's funniest and most competitive with a friend on the other keys, so play local multiplayer when you can.
