Effing Worms is the chaos-arcade game where you control a giant subterranean worm whose only job is to burst out of the ground and eat everything. People run. Cars try to escape. The military rolls in tanks and helicopters. Your worm grows larger with each meal, until you're the size of a city block and the screen fills with carnage every time you surface.
The brilliance of the original is its escalation. You start small, eating cows in a quiet field. By minute three you're ambushing convoys. By minute ten you're tearing through fighter jets mid-flight and the screen is constant explosions. The game scales the threats faster than you scale yourself, which means even at maximum worm-size every emergence is genuinely tense.

Controls. Mouse — move your worm in the direction of the cursor. Left-click — bite/attack. Spacebar — burrow underground (escape danger). Surface to attack, burrow to escape and regenerate health.
Tips:
- Don't stay surfaced too long. The military scales threats based on how exposed you are; a 5-second surface attack followed by a 3-second burrow keeps you alive far longer than constant aggression.
- Eat cars and tanks when full — they're worth more growth points than humans and replenish your size faster.
- Helicopters are the biggest mid-game threat. They track you while burrowed via heat signature. Avoid them by surfacing only when they're directly above (so you're behind them on emergence).
- Unlock the spike upgrade early — passive damage during burrows kills tanks above ground without exposing you.
