Crossy Road is Frogger reborn for the touchscreen generation. You control a chicken (or one of dozens of unlockable characters) crossing endless lanes of cars, rivers, and railroads. One mistake — a car, a log gap, a train — and you're done.

What separates Crossy Road from its arcade predecessor is the unlock economy and the presentation. Each game earns coins; coins buy random characters from a gacha machine. Some characters are simple skins; others change the game world (the Yeti turns the road into snow; the South Park characters turn the world into Colorado).

The gameplay loop is brutally simple but tight. Every decision is a tap. Each tap commits — you can't undo a step into traffic. Skilled players read the patterns of approaching cars three lanes ahead, plan jumps across log clusters, and sprint through gaps that look impossible to a beginner.

Crossy Road plays beautifully on Chromebooks because it's framerate-stable and uses small files. It's been an unblocked-games staple since 2016 and shows no sign of fading.

The 100+ unlockable characters give Crossy Road serious replay value. Some change game mechanics (the dragon breathes fire; the wizard slows time briefly). The character chase is what brings players back even after they've mastered the road-crossing.

How to play Crossy Road

Controls. Arrow keys or WASD. Up — hop forward. Left/Right — sidestep. Down — backstep.

Tips:

• Don't stop moving — hawks and birds will eat you if you idle too long.
• Cross logs at the gap angle, not perpendicular — sidestep across narrow gaps.
• Save coins for the gacha — single characters don't matter, but unlocking enough changes the game.
• The faster you cross, the more bonus points you earn.
